IITACGIAR  recently hosted the renowned ecotourism ambassadors – the Oguntoye twins, founders of Twins Tourism, and hosts of the popular Travel with the Twins radio program on Lagelu FM, just days after they exchanged wedding vows with the identical Adediran twin sisters during a colorful wedding celebration held on 19–20 June in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Through a collaborative partnership between IITA Hospitality and Travel Services (HOSTRAS) and IITA Forest Center, the newlyweds enjoyed an adventurous, unforgettable honeymoon that combined recreation, nature, conservation, and hospitality. “The moment we arrived, we knew we were in a peaceful, unique, and beautiful place. Away from the hustle and bustle of our wedding celebrations, we found a space to connect, reflect, and celebrate a new chapter together. The IITA team had a variety of recreational and nature-based activities lined up for us,” the twins said.

One of the highlights of their stay was a forest walk through the lush, biodiversity-rich IITA Forest Reserve, where they encountered valuable indigenous tree species and learned about ongoing conservation initiatives. The twins also explored the Ethnobotanic Garden, where they rediscovered several indigenous vegetables and gained insights into the importance of preserving traditional plant knowledge for future generations.

The birdwatching experience proved particularly memorable. Equipped with binoculars, the lovebirds observed some of the many bird species inhabiting the IITA landscape, gaining a deeper appreciation for the ecological importance of conserving natural habitats.

During their stay, the newlywed Oguntoye and Adediran twins explored many recreational activities available to IITA guests. Whether seeking adventure, relaxation, fitness, or quality time with loved ones, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities in IITA’s serene and nature-rich environment.

Swimming offers guests a refreshing opportunity to relax and rejuvenate, while fishing combines recreation with the thrill of catching fish from IITA’s scenic waterways—a memorable highlight of the twins’ visit. Sports enthusiasts can engage in friendly competition through lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, and basketball, all of which promote fitness, teamwork, and social interaction. Guests seeking a more leisurely outdoor experience can enjoy a round of golf, surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil surroundings that make every swing memorable.

For those who prefer indoor recreation, IITA provides engaging activities such as snooker, darts, Scrabble, Monopoly, chess, and Ludo, offering opportunities for strategic thinking, relaxation, and quality bonding time with family and friends.

Reflecting on their experience, the newlyweds expressed admiration for the vast natural resources, the wealth of knowledge, and the warm hospitality they experienced throughout their stay. From engaging conversations on RadioIITA about how culture, nature, and science can work together to create memorable experiences and drive sustainable tourism in Nigeria and beyond, to strategic discussions with the Head of IITA Communication Office, Katherine Lopez, and IITA Director General and CGIAR Regional Director for Continental Africa, Dr Simeon Ehui, the twins indeed loved their IITA adventure.

“It was an honor to experience hospitality and nature-tourism at IITA so closely. From the brief chat with the Director General, who was genuinely interested in our journey and story, to the excellent hospitality and fine dining services we enjoyed, we sincerely thank IITA for being the first institution to host our honeymoon. This gesture is a true reflection of where our hearts lie,” they said. “Our heartfelt thanks to IITA Forest Center, the HOSTRAS team, and the entire IITA family for such warm, thoughtful, and exceptional hospitality.”

Beyond recreation, their visit highlighted the important role ecotourism can play in supporting environmental conservation. The innovative partnership between HOSTRAS and IITA Forest Center enables guests to enjoy experiences such as forest walks, birdwatching, fishing, camping, picnics, cycling, golfing, and other nature-based recreational activities while simultaneously supporting conservation initiatives that benefit people, ecosystems, and future generations.

Through this collaboration, visitors who engage in tourism and recreational activities actively contribute to conservation efforts, biodiversity protection, environmental education, and the preservation of valuable natural resources.

The twins’ hosting further underscores the growing potential of IITA as a destination of choice for honeymooners, families, researchers, nature enthusiasts, and visitors seeking wellness, recreation, and learning experiences in a serene natural environment – offering a unique blend of hospitality, biodiversity, and ecotourism experiences beyond the conventional getaway places.
